Fingers are quick, but they often leave patchy edges around the nose and jaw. A good foundation brush spreads a thin, even layer, and a puff melts it into your skin. Here is how to do it without streaks.
What you need
- A liquid or cream foundation
- A flat, dense foundation brush
- A makeup puff or sponge for the final press
Step by step
- Prep your skin. Moisturize and let it sink in for a minute.
- Put the foundation on the back of your hand, not straight on the brush. It warms up slightly and you control the amount.
- Load only the tip of the brush. Too much product is the number one cause of streaks.
- Sweep from the center outward. Start at the cheeks and nose and sweep toward the hairline and jaw in short strokes.
- Use the edge for small areas. Turn the brush on its side for around the nose, the corners of the mouth and under the eyes.
- Press with the puff. Gently press and roll the puff over your face to blend away any brush lines.
Common mistakes
- Dragging long strokes. Short sweeps and light pressure give a smoother finish.
- Applying too much at once. Two thin layers look more natural than one thick one.
- A dirty brush. Old product dries in the bristles and makes streaks. Wash your brush regularly.
